Asthma is

a disorder of restricted airflow secondary to inflammation,  bronchoconstriction, mucous production and edema. 
There is a significant component of inheritance and association with other atopic disorders such as Eczema and Allergy.

Clinical Category

Impairment includes categories such as exercise induced, intermittent, mild persistent, moderate persistent and severe persistent.  
Risk is more related to severity of episodes in conjunction with frequency of events.

kid comes in with an attack. How to treat?

oxygen
albuterol

a few nebs, ok. Then add steroids, transport to ED

oxygen is also a bronchodilator

chronic excessive use of beta agonist can lead to resistance
