Photosynthesis Flashcards
(8 cards)
We can monitor the rate of photosynthesis by….
Measuring the amount of oxygen produced
How do you test a leaf for starch?
Plant must be kept in darkness for 24-48 hours prior. Place the leaf in boiling water to break down the cell membranes. Place in a tube half full of ethanol. Place the tube into boiling water for 10 minutes. Remove the leaf and wash it. Place the leaf on a white tile covered in iodine. Should turn blue/black
Reactants of photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide, water and the energy from the sun
Limiting factors of photosynthesis
Temperature
Carbon dioxide intensity
Light intensity
How can we use technology to predict the affect of limiting factors
Computer modelling and simulations
What chemical absorbs sunlight
Chlorophyll
How may the glucose created in photosynthesis be used
In respiration
Converted to starch for storage for storage
Used to make cellulose and proteins
What can oxygen and carbon dioxide sensors with data loggers detect and measure
Oxygen produced per min and carbon dioxide produced per min
