Q

How do you test a leaf for starch?

A

Plant must be kept in darkness for 24-48 hours prior. Place the leaf in boiling water to break down the cell membranes. Place in a tube half full of ethanol. Place the tube into boiling water for 10 minutes. Remove the leaf and wash it. Place the leaf on a white tile covered in iodine. Should turn blue/black
