16
Q

What is a recall survey?

A

Subjective tool to assess PA and sedentary levels in a population.

17
Q

Recall survey by proxy?

A

Completed by someone else (e.g. parent/teacher) for those with limited ability.

18
Q

Recall survey advantages

A

Cheap, easy, collects large amounts and a range of data.

19
Q

Recall survey disadvantages

A

Low accuracy, poor recall, not suited for kids <10 or elderly due to cognition.

20
Q

Diary – advantage & disadvantage

A

Records anytime = good accuracy. But can be a burden needing regular input.

21
Q

What is a pedometer?

A

Small device clipped to clothing that counts steps.

22
Q

Pedometer advantages

A

Cheap and easy to use.

23
Q

Pedometer disadvantages

A

Doesn’t track upper body, swimming, cycling. Causes reactivity.

24
Q

What is accelerometry?

A

Uses motion sensors to record movement via tiny transmitters.

25
Accelerometry advantages
Small, tracks both PA and sedentary behaviour.
26
Accelerometry disadvantages
Can’t identify activity type/context. Still causes some reactivity.
27
SOFIT – stands for & measures
System for Observing Fitness Instruction Time – tracks PA, lesson type, teacher behaviour in PE.
28
SOPLAY – stands for & measures
System for Observing Play and Leisure Activity in Youth – assesses PA in free play (e.g. recess/lunch).
29
What is a personal activity tracker?
Wearable device that tracks physical activity and health metrics.
30
Tracker advantages
Can track many dimensions fairly accurately. Easy and comfy to wear.
31
Tracker disadvantages
Expensive for some. Less accurate for free play or stationary movement (e.g. treadmill).
