Poisoning Treatment Flashcards
(12 cards)
Respiration emergency
Open airway, lift chin, assisted ventilation may be needed, o2 if carbon monoxide poisoning
BP

Hypertension - with amfetamine, phencyclidine and cocaine
Body temperature
Hypothermia - low body temp with barbiturates/phenothiazines
Hyperthermia - with stimulants
Convulsions
Benzodiazepines give IV if not midazolam or diazepam rectally
Prevention of absorption
Activated charcoal useful in poisons of small amounts
Active elimination technique
Repeated activated charcoal give with carbamazepine, daspone, phenobarbital, quinine, theophylline
