Population density
The number of people living per square kilometre.
Population distribution
The way people are spread out over the Earth’s surface.
High Income Country (HIC)
A country with a GNI per capita of $12,476 or more.
Low Income Country (LIC)
A country with a GNI per capita of $1,025 or less.
Middle Income Country (MIC)
A country with a GNI per capita between $1,026 and $12,475.
Upper middle income
A country with a GNI per capita between $4,036 and $12,475.
Lower middle income
A country with a GNI per capita between $1,026 and $4,035.
Emerging economies
Countries experiencing rapid growth and industrialization, often MICs.
Gross National Income (GNI)
Total domestic and foreign income claimed by residents of a country.
Core
Areas of high economic development and influence (e.g. HICs).
Periphery
Areas with less development and influence (e.g. LICs).

The number of live births per 1,000 people per year.
