What is the usage of the preterite tense?
To describe a single completed action. Need it for narrative accounts and report of past events, and also to refer to single events in the past.
E.g. el partido acabó a las once - the match finished at 11
¿Cómo reaccionaste al ver su película? - How did you react when you saw this film?
How do you form regular verbs?
AR - é, aste, ó, amos, asteis, aron
ER,IR - í, site, ió, imos, isteis, ieron
How do you form irregular verbs? E.g. tener, poder, poner, querer, ser, estar, andar, traer, conducir etc…
Ser, ir (fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fuisteis, fueron) (use context to work out whether it’s ser or ir being used)
Tener - tuve, tuviste, tuvo, tuvimos, tuvisteis, tuvieron
Estar - estuve, estuviste, estuvo, estuvimos, estuvisteis, estuvieron
Andar - anduve, anduviste, anduvo, anduvimos, anduvisteis, anduvieron
Decir - dije, dijiste, dijo, dijimos, dijisteis, dijeron
Traer - traje, trajiste, trajo, trajimos, trajisteis, trajeron
Conducir - conduje, condujiste, condujo, condujimos, condujisteis, condujeron
Dar - di, diste, dio, dimos, disteis, dieron
Hacer - hice, hiciste, hizo, hicimos, hicisteis, hicieron
poder - pude, pudiste, pudo, pudimos, pudisteis, pudieron

How to form a compound verb with irregular verbs?
Based on the irregular verbs they have the same irregular patterns as the verbs on which they are based.
hacer - deshacer, satisfacer
poner - componer, disponer, exponer, imponer, proponer, suponer
tener - contener, detener, mantener, obtener, sostener
traer - atraer, contraer, distraer, sustraer
venir - convenir, intervenir
conducir - introducir, producir
The pretérito of hay is hubo but because the pretérito is used for events not for ongoing situations or descriptions when you want to say there was/ there were you use imperfect form había
