Process of Blood Circulation Flashcards
(39 cards)
What are the two main components of blood?
- Corpuscles - Dark red coloured materials( 45% )
- Plasma - Pale yellow colour fulid ( 55% )
What are the 3 main types of corpuscles?
- RBC
- WBC
- Platelets
What are the two main types of WBC?
- Granuocytes
- Non granulocytes
What are the 3 types of granulocytes?
- Neutrophils
- Eosinophils
- Basophils
What are the 2 types of non granulocytes?
- Lymphocytes
- Monocytes
What is the life span of a red blood cell?
about 4 months
What is the feature of a RBC to increase the surface area to absorb more oxygen?
RBC not having a nucleus
What compund is formed when oxygen is binded with haemoglobin?
Oxyhaemoglobin
Where are RBC formed?
Red bone marrow
What does the WBC has that the RBC do not have?
A nucleus
Where are the WBC formed?
Bone marrow
What is the ratio of the RBC to WBC?
600:1
What are the percetages of the types of WBC in a healthy person?
Granulocytes
1. Neutrophils - 50%-70%
2. Eosinophils - 1% - 4%
3. Basophils - 0 - 1%
Non granulocytes
1. Lymphocytes - 20% - 40%
2. Monocytes - 2% - 8%
What is the function of the WBC?
Destruction of the infectious particles that enter the body thorugh Phagocytosis and production of antibodies.
How does the WBC help in diagnosing diseses?
The WBC count in blood help to diagnose diseses
What are called as platelets?
The cells apart from the RBC and WBC that cannot be identifed as cells in the human blood that do not have nuclei in them.
Where do platelets formed?
Bone marrow
What are the diseses that cause a drastic drop of platelets?
- Dengue
- Leptospirosis
What does the platelets contain and what is its function?
Platelets contain thromboplastin which help in coagulation of blood
What is contained in the 92% of the blood plasma?
Water
What is the second most abundant compound in the blood plasma?
Protiens
Except for water and protiens what are the other components found in the blood plasma?
Nutrients, Nitrogenous waste, hormones, enzymes, gases and ions
What are the functions of blood?
- Transportation of materials ( digested end products, respiratory gases, excretory biproducts, hormones, mineral ions and protiens )
- Protect the body from pathogenic microebes by phagocytosis and by producing antibodies.
- Maintenane of chemical coordination and homeostasis among tissues and organs.
What is the circulation where the blood flows through the lungs?
Pulmonary circulation
