Q

Why faecal matter is not an excretory product?

A

Faeces are the undiested end products of the digestion process. Digestion of food is not a biochemical reaction. Therefore faeces is not an excretory product.

Q

What is the process of entering blood into the kidneys?

A

The waste materials in blood eneter through renal arteries are filtered inside the kidney.

Q

What is called glomerulus?

A

Each afferent atriole enters into each bowman’s capsule where they further divide forming a dense network of capillaries it is known as glomerulus.

9
Q

What is called ultra-filteration?

A

The blood flow through the glomerulus is having a high blood pressure because the diameter of efferent arteriole is smaller than the diameter of afferent arteriole. So blood gets filtered through the wall of glomerulus and the inner wall of the bowman capsule and collected into the cavity of bowman’s capsule. This process is known as ultra filteration

14
Q

What is called selective Re absorption?

A

when glomerulus filtrate moves along the nephron most of the constituents get absorbed again into the blood capillaries associated with nephron, this is called selective reabsorption.

15
Q

What are the substances that get re absorbed during the selective reabsorption process?

A

90% of the water, all glucose, amino acids and vitamins, parts of salts, small amount of urea, uric acid and drugs reabsorbs into blood.

16
Q

What is the volume of the glomerulur filtrate formed during one minute in a healthy person?

17
Q

How much of the glomerulur filtrate is absorbed when it moves along the nephron?

18
Q

How much of the glucose is reabsorbed into the blood capillaries?

A

100% ( in a healthy person )

19
Q

What is called secertion? Give some examples for the secreted substances?

A

Some of the materials in the blood capillaries associated with the nephrons enters the tubules of the nephorn. This process is known as secretion.
e.g:
* Hydorgen ions ( H+)
* Potassium ions ( K+ )
* Ammonium ions ( NH4 + )
* Creatinine
* Drugs
* Vitamin B

20
Q

Describe the composition of the urine of a healthy human

A

Water - 96%
Salts - 2%
Urea - 2%
Uric acid - trace
Creatinine - trace

21
Q

What are the 3 main diseases associated with the urinary system?

A
  • Renal Failure
  • Nephritis
  • Calculi in kidney and bladder
22
Q

What is called kidney failure?

A

Failure of kidneys due to the weakening of urine filteration process in nephrons.

23
Q

What are the causes for kidney failure?

A
  • Microbial Infections
  • Carbon Tetrachloride
  • Heavy metals ( Mecrcury, arsenic )
24
Q

What are the basic symptoms of kidney failure?

A
  • Oedema
  • Increase of blood pressure due to accumalation of water and salts.
  • pH of the blood decreases due to the accumulation of urea and other excretory materials.
25
What is another form of kidney failure ( renal failure ) ?
acute renal failure
26
How does the blood gets filtered if the kidney failure occurs?
By using a machine in a proecess called *dialysis*
27
What is called nephritis?
Swelling of kidneys that occurs due to infections and toxins.
28
What parts are affected by nephritis?
Glomerulus Uriniferous tubulus
29
What happes when nephritis occur?
* The damages caused to the glomerulus caueses the volume of blood flowing through it to drop. * Reducing the amount of urine formed. * Therefore the waste materials in the blood are high. * FIltering process gets affected and as a result red blood cells and protiens gets filtered. * Due to the lack of essential protiens, strokes may occur.
30
What is the cause of calculi in kidney and bladder?
Crystellization of calcium oxalate in kidney and the bladder.
31
What happens when the calculi in kidney and bladder occur?
When those stones ( crystals ) block the ureters, severe pain occurs.
32
How the stones created in the urinary system are removed?
They are crushed by applying laser rays, ultra sound waves ( Lithotripsy )
33
What are the caues for the stones in blood?
* Postponing of urination * Not drinking the required amount of water
