Define Ethics
All educators must maintain a sense of professional ethics, which might best be described as a set of expectations about what is appropriate practice for working with students, and the role of a professional educator.

Define professional development
PD is all the ways that
teachers continue to learn and grow from their pre-service teacher training all the way
through their career. Professional development includes all sorts of learning opportunities, such as staff-development workshops, conferences, conventions, online or face-to-face courses, and even professional reading groups.
Define portfolio
A professional portfolio is a document exhibiting evidence for how you have met required standards for our program and any teachers keep a portfolio of their work to illustrate their knowledge and skills.

A personal philosophy statement explains beliefs about my role as a teacher, my students, what “good teaching” looks like, and more
Endorsement
An endorsement is a statement on your teaching license that you have completed a course of study that ensures you have the content knowledge you need for teaching a particular content area.
Who is the BOEE (Iowa)?
The Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) is the part of the state department of education charged with examining teacher candidates and issuing teaching licenses to graduates of teacher preparation programs who have met the requirements for licensure.
What does NEA (union) stand for?
The National Educators’ Association (NEA) is aimed at elevating the teaching profession by creating a more professional culture among teachers. It has become the largest teachers’ union in the nation, and it continues to grow.
What does the AFT (union) stand for?
The American Federation of Teachers (AFT)
What does PLC stand for?
It stands for a Professional Learning Community (PLC). And it is an intentional collaboration between teachers. Usually PLCs exist within a school, or throughout a district. In a PLC, teachers work together to examine their school’s policies and their own teaching using a technique called reflective practice.
What does the acronym AIW stand for?
Used by some PLC’s, Authentic Intellectual Work (AIW) is used to guide their work together. AIW involves teachers bringing samples of assignments or assessments to a trusted group of teacher peers to ensure that students are doing work in school that is transferrable to situations outside of school when they graduate
What is Common Core?
The Common Core is a body of content standards that outline what students in grades K-12 should learn in language arts and mathematics.
Describe Reflective Practice?
Reflective practice means that the teachers specifically reflect on their own teaching. This means they think through the practices and techniques they use in their classroom with the intent of making an action plan for ongoing improvement.
Define Best Practice?
This term has been used to describe “what works” in a specific situation or environment.
Explain researched-based practice
When data support the success of a practice, it is referred to as research-based practice
Explain what Teacher license/credential/certification is?
Teaching licenses are issued by individual states and go to graduates of teacher preparation programs who have met the requirements for licensure, including but not limited to collaboration. Student teaching involves an active collaboration between a mentor teacher and college supervisor, and you, the teacher intern.
