What is pruritus ani?
It is a symptom of perianal itching or burning, not a diagnosis.

What hygiene advice should be given for pruritus vulvae?
Clean with emollient ointment once daily, dry gently, and avoid soaps, fragranced products, and tight/synthetic clothing.
What topical treatment is first-line for inflammation in pruritus vulvae?
A low-potency corticosteroid (e.g., hydrocortisone) for 1–2 weeks.
What medications can be used if sleep is disturbed?
Hydroxyzine, amitriptyline (10 mg), or doxepin (25 mg) – avoid hydroxyzine in the elderly or if there’s QT prolongation.
