2
Q

Describe the purpose of the equipment drains.

A
  • High purity waste. Processed via precoat filter and deep bed demineralizer.
    • After recirc and sample analysis, water can be sent to the river, the CST, or back for reprocessing.
    • DW sumps are cooled by chill water and RB sumps are cooled by RACS to prevent flashing in the sumps.

Q

Describe the purpose of the floor drains.

A
  • Low purity waste. Processed via precoat filter and deep bed demineralizer.
    • After recirc and sample analysis, water can be sent to the river, the CST, the Waste Neutralizing Tanks (WNT) for segraegation, or back for reprocessing.

Q

Describe the purpose of the detergent waste.

A

Decontamination and general cleaning water from inside RCA. Discharged to river via mech filter.

Q

What are the different ways we process radwaste?

A
  1. Filtration (via precoat filter or mechanical fiber filter)
    These are PCIS Isolations →
  2. Demineralization (mostly via deep bed demineralizers)
    • Precoat filters provide limited demin capability
  3. Evaporation (evaps no longer in use)
    • Vendor supplied casks dry liquid and solid rooneywaste for transport and burial

Q

What important functions are lost during a loss of radwaste?

A
  1. RWCU: loss of blowdown path and backwash capability.
  2. RHR: loss of torus letdown and RHR warmup.
  3. Condensate: Inability to rinse condensate polishers. Loss of CST makeup.

Q

how is solid radwaste(ie spent resin) processed?

A
  1. RWCU – sent to Clean up phase separator
  2. Floor drain, equipment drain, and FPCC precoat resin – Sent to the waste sludge phase separator
  3. Floor Drain, equipment drain, and FPCC polisher resin – Sent to spent resin tank.
  4. Dry solid Rooneywaste is collected, packaged, and sent off site for incineration or burial.

Q

What are the isolation signals for drywell equipment & floor drains?

A

Level 2 (-38”)
1.68# DW
RB Hi Rad (1x10-3ucu/cc)

*Isolates F019 & F020 for the Equip drains and F003 & F004 for the Floor drains. Each drain also has one AOV which will open when a pump is running.
