Relationships are connections. They can be natural, forced or chosen.

Natural relationship analysis
The solid dark mass symbolises the uncertainty and Miles fears for the future. The ‘light gone’ conveys Miles despair as he loses the only hope he had. By debilitating Miles, the composer evokes pathos for Miles. Favel Parrett demonstrates brotherhood as a source of strength. This reflects that life’s challenges are better faced as a community rather than in solitude.

Forced relationship analysis
Through pathetic fallacy, Favel Parrett conveys the implications of self-destructive behaviour such as alcoholism which transformed Dad into a monster who encouraged Joe to harm his children. With Joe living and Mums death being left without support internalises Dads words that they were unwanted and alone. The composer seeks to illustrate that sometimes people stay in toxic relationships because they do not have a choice as those same relationships are a source of support for them++

Gripping on
Chosen relationship analysis
The reel metaphorically represents Harry’s life and him holding on conveys he was taking control of his life and that he had found his identity. This is through George’s kind and caring nature that Harry flourishes. Commentary that we should be kind to one another and illustrates the inherent human need to form connections. +++
