(9 cards)

1
Q

A

the consistency of a research study or measuring test, the precision of data. Necessary for validity.

2
Q

Random error

A

Because it is random, it “cancels out” with repeated measure. Example - weight on different trials

3
Q

Intrinsic noise

A

drink a half gallon of water between two measurements, you may weigh more the 2nd time.

4
Q

Measurement error

A

the degree to which the recorded measure for a participant on some variable differs from the true value of the variable for that participant. Example - reading the tick marks on the scale wrong.

A

consistent error, this is a problem. Example - weight on different scales.

7
Q

test-retest reliability

A

the consistency in results every time a measure is used. Same measurement, different times

8
Q

Split-half reliability

A

During a test that has different items that assess the same construct, randomly split the test into two halves, correlate the scores against one another. If the results are positively correlated then the test is reliable.
