What are gametes?
Specialized sex cells produced in the reproductive system.
What is a zygote?
The single cell formed from the fusion of sperm and egg.
What organ produces sperm in males?
Testis.
How many testes are there in the male reproductive system?
Two.
What hormone is secreted by the testes?
Testosterone.
What is the function of the scrotum?
Encloses the testes and provides a cooler environment for sperm development.
What is the epididymis?
A long coiled tube that stores and matures sperm.
What is the function of the vas deferens?
Carries sperm from the epididymis to the urethra.
What do seminal vesicles secrete?
Seminal fluid containing fructose for sperm energy.
What does the prostate gland secrete?
A fluid that nourishes and activates sperm.
What is semen?
The combination of sperm and seminal fluid.
What is the function of the urethra in males?
Serves as a common pathway for urine and seminal fluid.
What is spermatogenesis?
The process of sperm production in the seminiferous tubules.
What hormone controls sperm production?
Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH).
What is the structure of a sperm cell?
Consists of a head, mid-piece, and tail.
What is the function of the ovaries in the female reproductive system?
Produce eggs and female sex hormones.
What is ovulation?
The release of an egg from an ovary.
What is the function of the fallopian tube?
Connects the ovary to the uterus and is the site of fertilization.
What is the uterus also known as?
Womb.
What is the role of the cervix?
Dilates during delivery and connects the uterus to the vagina.
What is oogenesis?
The process of egg production in females.
How often does an ovary release an ovum?
Every 28 days.
What are the secondary sexual characteristics in males?
Increased height, broadening shoulders, hair growth, voice deepening, muscle development.
What are the secondary sexual characteristics in females?
Growth of body hair, breast enlargement, widening hips.
