AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE WAR

A

the rebellion of the 13 colonies that England had in the North of the American continent and that took place between 1775 and 1783. It was the first bourgeois revolution and influenced other revolutions that broke out later such as the French Revolution. It was very important because it was the first time a liberal political organisation based on Enlightenment ideas was put into practice in a real way.

BOSTON TEA MUTINY

A

incidentthathappenedin1773,inwhich boxes of tea belonging to the British East India Company were thrown from ships into Boston Harbour. The Americans were protesting both a tax on tea (no taxation without representation) and the monopoly of the East India Company that was the only company that could sell the tea to the colonies and therefore, set the prices.

CONGRESS OF VIENNA

A

assemblyinViennain1814-1815that reorganised Europe after the defeat of Napoleon. The winning powers wanted to restore absolutism and redraw the European frontiers. The main aim of the Congress was to establish a balance between the European powers so any state would be more powerful than the others.

A

set of principles and rules that try to establish the form of a State as well as separation of powers. It protects the rights and the interests of all citizens. The first one was the Constitution of the United States of America signed in 1787.

A

It was based on liberal ideas that established a separation of powers, recognised a republican government led by an elected president and a federal system of government. The American constitution showed Europeans that Enlightenment ideas could become real.
