(20 cards)
Cell
in biology the smallest unit that can preform all life processes; cells are covered by a membrane and have DNA and cytoplasm.
Nucleus
in a eukaryotic cell a membrane-bound organelle that contains the cell’s DNA and that has a role in processes such as growth, metabolism, and reproduction.
Cytoplasm
fluid that the organelle are set it.
Ribosome
the organisell in which amino acid are hooked together to make proteinems
cell membrane
a phosolipid ayer that covers a cell’s surface; acts as a barrier between the inside of a cell and the cells envorment.
organelle
one of small bodies in a cell’s cytoplasm that are specialized to preform a spesific function.
Eukaryote
an organism made up of cells that have a nuclues enclosed by a membrane; eukaryotes include animals, plants and fungi but not archaebactria or eubacteria.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
a system of membranes that is found in a cell’s cytoplasm and that assicts n the oroduction, processing and trasport of prteins and in the production of liquids.
Mitochondrion
in eukaryotic cells the cell organelle that is surrounded by two membranes and that is the site of celluer resperation.
Golgi complex
cell organelle that helps make and package matereals to be transported out of the cell.
lysosome
a cell organelle that contains digstive enzymes.
organ system
a group of orgains thta work together to preform body functions.
organism
a living thing; anthing that can carry out life processes independly.
structure
the arrangment parts in an organism
prokaryote
an organism that consists of a single cell that does not have a nueclules
cell wall
a rigid structure that surrounds the cell membrane and provides support to the cell.
tissue
a group of simaler cells that preform a common fuction.
Vacoule
a space in a cell that contains fluid.
organ
a collection of tissues that carry out a specialized function of the body.
cloroplast
organelles in a plant and algae cells in which photosytheisi takes place.
