What does benificence mean
Maximising the benefits of the screening whilst minimising potential harm
What does non maleficence mean
Do no harm- making sure screening is carried out without harming patient
What does patient autonomy mean
It’s an informed choice- patients can choose if they want to be screened or not
What does equity mean
Ensuring that everyone has a fair and equal opportunity to access and benefit from the screening process
What is the impact to the patient and screen provider of a true positive result?
Create a treatment plan and could also improve outcomes, as it’s been detected while the patient is asymptomatic
What is the purpose of screening
Screening is typically done on patients who are asymptomatic- it identifies the conditions early
Impact of false positive
May give them anxiety and lack of faith in screening
What do the terms sensitivity and specificity mean
Sensitivity means a tests ability to correctly identify individuals who have a disease. Specificity means the ability of a test to identify those who don’t have the disease.
