What is the mission of the Amphibious Task Force?
Navy task organization formed to conduct amphibious operations.The ATF staff ensures troops, equipment, and supplies are landed at the prescribed times, places, and in the formation required by the LF scheme of maneuver. The ATF commander exercises overall control of ship-to-shore movement and is also responsible for land forces debarkation until termination of the amphibious operation.
Discuss the Commander Amphibious Task Force and Commander Landing Force relationship as it pertains to amphibious operations.
Once the LF is embarked, the CATF assumes full responsibility for the ATF and the operations. The CLF is subject to the CATF’s command authority and is responsible for the conduct of operations ashore. The CATF executes ship-to-shore movement in accordance with the previously approved plan. He/she is responsible for making any major changes. Since a major change may affect the troop scheme, the CLF should be informed. If the CLF desires to make a change in plans which affects the ship-to-shore movement, he/she should obtain the approval of the CATF, who will then promulgate the change.

What is a raid?
Raid. An operation involving a swift incursion into or the temporary occupation of an objective to accomplish an assigned mission followed by a planned withdrawal.
What is a feint?
Feint. An offensive action involving contact with the adversary conducted for the purpose of deceiving the adversary as to the location and/or time of the actual main offensive action.
What is a demonstration?
Demonstration. Intended to confuse the enemy as to time, place, or strength of the main operation.
What is an assault?
Assault. Involves the establishment of an LF on a hostile or potentially hostile shore.
Describe the LHA.
LHA - Tarawa Class- The assigned mission of the amphibious assault ship (general purpose) is to embark, deploy, and land elements of a Marine landing force in an amphibious assault by helicopters, landing craft, amphibious vehicles, or combinations of these methods.
Carries 1900 Marines
35 Aircraft (Helo & VSTOL)
1 LCAC & 2 LCU or 4 LCUs
4 ORs and a 30 bed hospital
Has the Integrated Tactical Amphibious Warefare Data (ITAWDS) which provides computerized support in control of helicopters, landing craft, shipboard weapons, sensors, navigation and electronic warfare.

What is the LFSP?
The Landing Force Support Party is the task-organized forward echelon of combat service support formed to facilitate ship-to-shore movement. Its mission is to provide general logistical support to the landing force in the early stages of the assault.
What are the capabilities of the US Navy hospital ships Mercy and Comfort?
They have 12 operating rooms, 1,000 bed hospital, x-ray, medical labs, pharmacy, optometry, a CT scanner & 2 oxygen producing plants. They have a helicopter deck and side ports to take on patients at sea. It also has 2 dental surgery rooms & 4 dental chairs for routine dental work. The dental surgery rooms can be used in an emergency as regular operating rooms.

H-hour (amphibious operations). For amphibious operations, the time the first assault elements are scheduled to touch down on the beach, or a landing zone, and in some cases the start of countermine breaching operations.

D-day. The unnamed day on which a particular operation commences or is to commence.
List the functions of the beach party.
Removes underwater obstacles, provides navigation, marks hazards, operates tugs, contols boats around the beach, provides communications, reports surf to the amphibious CDR.
What is the line of departure?
In land warfare, a line designated to coordinate the departure of attack elements
In amphibious operations, the LOD is an offshore coordinating line to assist displacement craft and AAVs to land on designated beaches at scheduled times
