Q

Explain the process of selective breeding

A
  • Organisms with most desired traits are chosen carefully and bred together
  • Offspring with most desired traits are chosen and bred together
  • Repeated over many generations
  • All organisms in population posses high value of desired trait

Q

What are the disadvantages of selective breeding?

A
  • Reduces gene pool: best individuals are closely related which leads to inbreeding. Inbred organisms more pron to disease or inhereted defects
  • Reduces genetic variation: population is more susceptible to disease. A disease could kill all organisms in a population
