What happened between 2005 and 2009 at the mid Staffordshire NHS foundation trust
The Francis report- this refers to a series of reports published by sir Robert Francis following a public inquiry into failings in care, this report led to major changes in the NHS
What 2 pieces of context is there regarding the Francis report
-patients were neglected, left in unclean conditions and denied basic care (food, meds, water)
-this led to the first inquiry in 2010, followed by a public enquiry in 2013 chair by sir Robert Francis
What 4 findings were there following the Francis report
-chronic understaffing
-Poor leadership and culture
-lack of compassion and dignity
-failure of regulatory bodies (CQC failed to detect problems at the hospital early enough to take adequate action)

Being open and honest with patients even if its a difficult conversation, not promising anything you can’t uphold
