What is the difference between growth and development
Growth is a change in size or weight and is easy to measure whereas development focuses on acquiring new skills and capabilities
What is meant by physical development
Changes that can happen to throughout each life stages. Some changes can be positive and some negative depending on the life stage we are in
What is meant by intellectual development
This involves the changes in the brain how we think and process information
What is meant by emotional development
How we learn as humans to understand and manage our feelings
What is meant by social development
How we interact with others and build relationships
What are the 4 key principles of personal centred care
-respect for individuals preference and values
-involvement of individuals in their care planning
-clear communication and information sharing
-flexible care that adapts to individuals needs
What is person centred care
Putting the individuals at the centre of their care and ensuring their individual needs are met. An approach that respects and values the uniqueness of the individual, prioritises their preferences, needs, and values and actively involves them in their care
Summarise what changes during infancy (PIES)
P- gross and fine motor skills, teething, increase weight and height
I- recognise, colours shapes numbers and faces, ask questions, follow commands, name objects
E- cry/ tantrums, attachment to caregivers, recognise themselves, smiles at faces
S- play groups, nursery, feast of separation, individual play, smile at other children
Summarise what changes during early childhood (PIES)
P- growth spurts, varied diet, fully continent, vaccinations, eye ear height and weight checks
I- speech progression, reading ad writing, drawings, personality develops, make decisions
E- verbalise feelings, bonds with others, better control over emotions
S- nursery/ start school, share toys, make friends, learn how to behave, know what/who they like

P- puberty, continue to grow, menstruation, adult teeth in place
I- brain changes, retain new information, exams, abstract thinking develops, solve complex problems
E- relationships, hormones, mood swings, developed self image and esteem
S- friend groups develop, school/ college, more freedom, experiment, push boundaries
Summarise what changes during early adulthood (PIES)
P- at peak, start a family, fully grown, at physical best, varied diet, strong, more fatty tissue
I- frontal lobe developed, good abstract thinking, hobbies, new skills, career driven
E- married/relationship/divorced, loss of loved ones, mature, self aware, deals with feelings well
S- secure friendships, smaller friends groups, leave home, meet new people, want to find a partner
Summarise what changes during middle adulthood (PIES)
P- hair loss, slower movement, poorer hand eye coordination, wrinkles, menopause
I- problem solving, abstract thinking, hobbies, new skills through study/work
E- mature, responsibilities with family/ work causes emotional stress, self awareness
S- empty nest syndrome, more time after retirement, loose contact with old colleagues
Summarise what changes during later adulthood (PIES)
P- weak bones hair and nails, incontinent, health conditions, loose teeth, thinner skin, loose weight
I- cognitive decline, memory loss, brain takes longer to process, harder to recall information
E- positive and negative feelings, loss of loved ones, develop through grandparenthood
S- loss, death of family, loneliness, join clubs, socially isolated due to illness or injury
