What are the main functions of the skeletal system?
Provides support, protection, movement, mineral storage, and blood cell production.
What are the two main parts of the skeleton?
Axial skeleton: Skull, vertebral column, rib cage.
Appendicular skeleton: Limbs, shoulder girdle, pelvic girdle.
What are the types of bones and examples?
Long bones: Femur, humerus.
Short bones: Carpals, tarsals.
Flat bones: Skull, ribs.
Irregular bones: Vertebrae.
Sesamoid bones: Patella.
What is the function of cartilage?
Cartilage provides flexibility, reduces friction, and absorbs shock in joints.
What is osteoporosis?
A condition where bones become weak and brittle due to loss of bone density, increasing the risk of fractures.
What are synovial joints?
Freely movable joints surrounded by a capsule and filled with synovial fluid for smooth movement (e.g., knee, shoulder).
