SOC 18 Flashcards
What is glucose
A major source of energy for most cells in the body
Wat is Aerobic respiration
The process of releasing energy from glucose using oxygen
What is anerobic respiration
the process of releasing energy from glucose, without oxygen.
What is aerobic exercise
Working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a continuous period e.g. long distance events
What is lactic acid
Colourless acid produced in muscle tissues during strenuous exercise when the body is exercising anerobically at high intensity
Cramp
Painful, involuntary contraction of a muscle, usually caused by fatigue
Anerobic exercise
Anerobic activities are usually short by intense
Glucose
A major source of energy for most cells in the body
Equation for aerobic respiration
Glucose + oxygen -> energy + CO2 + water
Equation for anerobic respiration
Glucose -> energy + lactic acid
Lactic acid
Is toxic. Makes your muscles ache and causes cramp. When your muscles stop recieving oxygen
Fats
A rich source of energy, but many modern diets provide more than our bodies need
Carbohydrates
The body’s main source of energy
Free sugars
Extra sugars added to food and drink
Complex carbs
Found in natural foods which help provide emergy for exercise and should form about half your daily intake
