How does gender affect participation in sport
A
- womens participation in sport in increasing but still fewer than men
- some sports offer more opportunities to one sex over the other e.g. netball
- 40.7% of men play sport vs 31.2% of women

How does age affect participation in sport?
A
- in most sports it is good to start young, although dome sports may have age restrictions e.g. marathon
- work, family and health problems may prevent adults or old people

How do socio-economic groups affect participation in sport?
A
- People are less likely if they come from a low socio-economic group
- socio-economic groups are generalisations but they can say something about a persons chance to access sport
- most activities have associated costs e.g. hire of facilities, lessons, equiptment and clothing
- your socio-economic group can influence the type of sport you can get involved in e.g. lacrosse is middle class

How does ethnicity and religion affect participation in sport?
A
- it can influence whether we play sport, what we choose to play and what we succeed in
- racism is still an issue in sport, despite huge efforts to promote racial equality
- in fiji, tonga and samoa, rugby is their culture
- there has been racial abuse against non-white players notably in football

How do disabilities affect participation in sport?
A
- people with disabilities take part in lots of sport
- unable to compete in certain sport/less avabilable clubs
- adapted activities have been introduced
- more avaliabilitay is still needed in schools and local level
- more role models in socety have helped participation

Influences in sport?
A
- most people’s choice of activity is influenced by others
- people tend to choose the same activites as friends or family
- people of the same age, socio economic class and interests are likely to participate in similar activites
