Q

What is Open Source Software (OSS)?

A

Open Source Software or (OSS) empowers users by allowing them to modify source content without consulting the software’s original owners. This not only leads to rapid bug fixes and issue resolution but also fosters a community of dedicated hobbyists who voluntarily provide fixes and support for one another. The downside is that code changes are not performed by the code’s owner, but this also means that users have the freedom to shape the software to their needs.

ie Linux, React, Free Office

Q

What is Proprietary Software (PS)?

A

Proprietary Software or (PS), in comparison, is more restrictive. It ensures that any alterations to the code improve it overall for the users. There is a sense of security and credibility because verified professionals make changes to the code. Proprietary software typically comes with drivers so developers can efficiently interact with the program. Additionally, PS contains extensive documentation on the changes made and the appropriate use of the software.

ie Avast, MacOS, Windows
