A

allocation of pt to grades according to: medical status, operative/ anaesthetic risk

what are the ASA classifications?

A

ASA1 - a pt without systemic disease, a normal healthy pt
ASA2 - a pt with mild systemic disease (mild asthma etc)
ASA3 - a pt with moderate systemic disease, which limits activity but is not incapacitating (more severe asthma etc)
ASA4 - a pt with incapacitating systemic disease, which is a constant threat to life (severe angina etc)
ASA5 - moribund pt not expected to survive 24 hours unless treated
