Spinal Cord And Spinal NERVEZ Flashcards

(12 cards)

1
Q

What is the gross anatomy if the SC?

A

It measures at about 45cm in length from the foramen magnum to the inferior boarder if the the lumbar vertebrae
It contains the dorsal and posterior aspects which are the posterior median sulcus and anterior median fissure
The gray matter extends itself along the spinal cord where there are motor and sensory neurons
Cervical-pectoral girdle and upper limbs
Lumbosacral-pecvis and lower limb

Q

Diffrence between the spinal cord of an infant and an adult?

A

In an adult it runs from the medulla oblongata to L1 and in an infant it runs from L3 to L4

Q

What are the spinal meninges?

A

They protect the spinal cord and are shock absorbent and cover the SC and surround the spinal nerve roots

Q

What are spinal taps?

A

Where the needle is positioned near the caudia equina below L4-5 the arachnoid space to draw out some CSF (punctured in the dura)

Q

What are the ascending and descending tracts?

A

This is where ascending(relay information from the spinal cord to the brain)
Descending tracts(Info from brain to spinal cord)

Q

What do the rami communications do?

A

Carry visceral motor fibers to and from a nearby autonomic ganglion associated with the sympathetic division of the ANS
The white ramus contains preganglionic myelinated axons and Carry fibers to the ganglion

The Grey ramus which innervate glands and smooth muscle contains 2 postganglionic fibers that leave ganglion

Q

What is the dorsal and ventral rami?

A

The dorsal rami contains sensory innervation and motor innervstion to the neck and back muscles
And the ventral innervates the ventrolateral body which is the body wall and the limbs

Q

What is the cervical plexus?

A

It contains the cutaneous and muscular branches in the ventral rami from C1-4 and C5
The cutaneous covers most if the head, neck, chest
And muscular is the head and shoulders
Major nerve is the phrenic nerve which enters the diaphragm

Q

What is the brachial plexus?

A

It is one of the largest nerve branches
Which innervates the pectorial girdle and the upper limbs
It has the superior, middle and inferior formed by the ventral rami of the spinal nerves

Q

What is the organization of the ventral rami of the brachial plexus?

A

The inferior, superior and middle converge into trunks
Then the trucks divide into the posterior and anterior division
The 3 posterior divisions form the posterior cord
The anterior division is the inferior and middle trunk which form the lateral cord
The medial cord is a continuation of the anterior division of the inferior trunk

Q

What are the lumbar and sacral plexuses?

A

Arise from the sacral and lumbar segments of the spinal cord
The ventral rami supplies the pelvis and lower limb
The lumbar-Made up of the genitofemoral, femoral and lateral cutaneous nerve
The sacral-made up of the sacral nerve abd the tibial and common fibula nerve
