Q

What is a mutation?

A

A mutation is a chnage in r group bases in amino acids this results in a chnage in DNA coding and sequence changing rhe overall gene

Q

What is Sarcoma

A

Cancer in the connective tissues like muscles, bones and fat

17
Q

What is Melanoma

A

Cancer of the cells that makes pigment in skin

18
Q

What is Leukemia

A

Cancer in the blood

19
Q

What is Lymphoma

A

Cancers of the lymphatic system

20
Q

What is chemotherapy? When is it used? When is it not used?

A

Chemo is a cancer treatment where medicine is used to kill cancer cells. Used if cancer has spread or if there is a risk of spreading. Not used when risks outweighs the benefits/possible outcomes of cancer

21
Q

What is chemotherapy? When is it used? When is it not used?

A

Chemo is a cancer treatment where medicine is used to kill cancer cells. Used if cancer has spread or if there is a risk of spreading. Not used when risks outweighs the benefits/possible outcomes of cancer

22
Q

What is surgery? When is it used? When is it not used?

A

Cutting out surgically/removal of cancerous or possible cancerous cells. When the cancer is on the skin. If there is a large patch of cancer cells and other treatments will benefit from it

23
Q

What is radiotherapy? When is it used? When is it not used?

A

Radiation therapy is when radiation us targeted at a specific part of the body to either kill or control cancer cells. It’s used in early stages of cancer or when the cancer has spread. Its not recommend to use when cancers are resistant to radiation

24
Q

What is combination therapy? When is it used? When is it not used?

A

Therapy that combines more than one method of treatment. Used when people with advanced cancers that aren’t suitable for radiation therapy. Shouldn’t be used when the patient is undergoing other drug treatments at rhe same time

25
What is blood transfusion? When is it used? When is it not used?
A blood transfusion is when you're given blood by a donor. Used when individuals blood is being overtaken with cancer cells.
26
How does photo dynamic therapy work? When can it not be used?
Light sensitive drug given, laser shines light at this activates drug = treatment
27
What is a antibody
Fights off foreign cells
28
What is immunotherapy
Enables immune system to recognise and target cancer cells
29
What does PCR stand for
Polymerase chain reaction
30
What are the steps of PCR
1. Heat up DNA molecule- 2 strands 2. Strands are cooled, primer is added at 55° 3. DNA synthesis, more copies are made due to DNA polymerase and DNA nucleotides used 4. Repeat for more DNA copies
31
What temp is needed at each stage
1- 94° 2- 55° 3- 75°
32
What is the end product if PCR
Multiple copies of DNA
