the cellular response Flashcards
(9 cards)
What do T cells not produce?
Antibodies
What do T cells have instead of antibodies?
Receptors on their cell surface membrane which binds to specific antigens
What is the first step of the cellular response?
The phagocyte engulfs the pathogen and phagocytoses it
What does the phagocyte do after engulfing the pathogen?
Removes the antigen and embeds it into its cell surface membrane to become an antigen presenting cell
What will helper T cells do?
Bind to the antigen with its complementary receptor
What does the binding of helper T cells stimulate?
T helper cells to divide by mitosis to form clones
What do the clone T H cells do?
Activate cytotoxic T cells, develop into more helper T cells, develop into memory T cells
What do cytotoxic T cells do?
Attach to the specific antigen and secrete chemicals to destroy it
What do memory T cells do?
Remain in the blood and respond when a future infection occurs with the same pathogen
