The Heart <3 Flashcards
(16 cards)
Function of the right atrium
Receives deoxygenated blood (blood low in oxygen) from the body.
Where does the right atrium send blood?
Pumps blood into the right ventricle.
Function of the right ventricle
Pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
Where does the right ventricle send blood?
Sends blood to the pulmonary arteries, which carry it to the lungs for oxygenation.
Function of the left atrium
Receives oxygenated blood (blood rich in oxygen) from the lungs.
Where does the left atrium send blood?
Pumps blood into the left ventricle.
Function of the left ventricle
Pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body.
Where does the left ventricle send blood?
Sends blood into the aorta, the main artery that distributes blood to all parts of the body.
State the order of deoxygenated blood flow
Body → Superior/Inferior vena cava → Right atrium → Right ventricle → Pulmonary arteries → Lungs
State the order of oxygenated blood flow
Lungs → Pulmonary veins → Left atrium → Left ventricle → Aorta → Body
How many chambers does the heart have?
4
Name the chambers of the heart
two atria (upper chambers) and two ventricles (lower chambers).
What does the right side of the heart deal with?
The right side deals with deoxygenated blood, sending it to the lungs
What does the left side of the heart deal with?
the left side handles oxygenated blood, sending it out to the body.
Which system is the heart apart of?
Circulatory system
