What does the central executive do ?
(Baddely 1974 WMM)
Organises the attention process and divides available resources between the three slave systems.
What is the visuospatial sketchpad?
Information that has been processed visually
What is the visual cache ?
What is the inner scribe ?
Visual cache- memory store for images/ sights we have witnessed
Inner scribe- ability to imagine space and shapes. E.g plan a route
What is the episodic buffer ?
Processes info from the other two slave systems and puts it into chronological order before it is added to the LTM.
What is the phonological loop ?
Concerned with info that has been processed acoustically
What is the phonological store?
What is the Articulatory store ?
Phonological store- Memory store for sounds we have heard
Articulatory process- inner voice used to think and retain info
Explain the KF case study ?
KF suffered brain damage from a motorcycle accident. KF’s LTM memory had remain intact. His STM had been damaged. Only verbal info was affected. STM for visual info was unaffected. Meaning he could not recall a list of items shortly after presented to him, but if items were physically presented in room he would be able to recall not only items but their positions in room.
