Third Party Testing And Evaluation Flashcards

Feedback
Feedback in design is information about reactions to a product which is used as a basis for improvement. It is used throughout all stages of the design process to highlight a design’s strengths and weaknesses.
Product testing
Is when the capabilities of a product are revealed by putting them under scrutiny.
Destructive testing
Tests the conditions a product can withstand before being destroyed.
NDT
Can reveal areas of weakness and design flaws on models and problems. Some methods include: ultrasonic, radiographic, electromagnetic and visual testing.
Market testing
Uses a group of potential users to examine a product or service. Feedback is given on performance and design. Honest and critical opinions from a range of people can be used to inform changes to function and aesthetics. User trials can check if the product is fit for purpose.
Target market testing
User tests on prototypes should involve using the prototypes just as people would in real life. To achieve effective results, carrel planning is required to provide information that can be analysed.
Target market testing should include
Letting users compare the prototype to existing products, showing the prototype but not explaining it, allowing the users to talk through their experience, observing them and asking follow up questions.
Views of others
The views of other interested parties are crucial for objective and unbiased feedback. This could include: experts and professionals in materials or manufacture technologies, reserach and development scientists, experts in health and safety.
