Where is the anterior part of the intercostal spaces?
Between cartilages called intercartilagenous
Where is the posterior part of the intercostal space placed?
Between the ribs called interosseous (attached to muscles)
Speak on the anterior and posterior part of external intercostalis
Anterior 1/3 is fleshy replaced by membrane
Posterior 2/3 arises from the sharp margin of lower border of upper border of lower rib
Nerve supply of external intercostalis?
Intercostal nerves it elevates the ribs during respiration
Where is the attachment of the the internal intimi?
Upper lip of the groove of upper rib and in sternal angle of inner lip of upper border of lower rib
What does the internal intimi does?
Depress the ribs during forced expiration
The intercostal nerve are?
The ventral rami of the thoracic spine from t1-t11
What thoracic nerves are atypical and why?
T-1 joins with c8 to form lower trunk of brachial plexus
T-2 Gives odd the intercostobracgu nerve
T7-11 extend beyond ribs to supply the anterior abdominal wall
T-12 subcostal nerve
Where does the intercostal nerve travel?
The costal groove of the rib
What are the beaches of the intercostal nerve?
Collateral branch, lateral cutaneous and anterior cutaneous branch
What does the white rami and grey rami of the sympathetic chain and ganglion do respectively?
Sends signal from spinal nerve to ganglia
Grey- from ganglia to nerve
What are the arterial supply of the artery?
Subclavian, intercostal internal thoracic
Where does the arteries of the thorax branch from?
The subclavian artery branches into the the internal thoracic and costcervixal artery who both give rise to the intercostal arteries the internal thoracic gives rise to anterior intercostal and costcocervical the 1st to 3rd posterior intercostal arteries
The internal thoracic also gives rise to epigastric and musculophrenic artery
What is heroes zoster?
Known as shingles is a painful rash that is cause by the varicella zoster virus
What arteries of the anterior intercostal arteries arise from musculophrenic artery ?
7th 8th 9th
Where does the internal mammary artery branch from?
1st part of the subclavian artery branches into
Where does the internal mammary gland terminate?
At the sixth intercostal space
What spaces are the anterior arteries absent?
11th and 16th
The pleural tap is done to?
Remove fluid or air from pleural space
Where is the recommended site for a pleural tap?
Axillary line in the 8th 9th or 10th space at the upper border of the rib
