Q

Define epithelium tissue

A
  • Also called epithelial tissue
  • Covers the body’s surface and lines hollow organs (intestine, bronchial tubes)
  • Provides a protective barrier
  • absorbes nutrience in the intestine (Simple columnar epithelium tissue)
  • secretes various substances: sweat and urea

Q

Define connective tissue

A
  • Binds other tissue types together
  • occurs throughout the body
  • made up of an abudance of intercellular matrix (non-living substances, collagen and protein and fibers)
  • Bone and cartilage are a sub-type of connective tissue

Q

Define muscle tissue

A
  • Able to contract
  • enclosed by fascia (layer of connective tissue that seperates individual muscles)
  • classified by Structure:
  • Striated and non-striated

Q

Define nerve tissue

A
  • Able to transmit nerve impulses
  • found in brain, spinal cord and nerves
  • responsible for controlling and coordinating body activities
  • Peripheral nerves: extend from the brain and spinal cord and exit betweent he vertebra
