Elaborative rehearsal

A

Proposed by Craik and Lockhart (1972) in their levels of Processing model of memory.

  • Deep semantic processing of a to-be remembered item resulting in the production of durable memories

Example of elaboration: Method of Loci - thinking of images that link the information with familiar locations

  • The key is to create the most striking visual images possible, the more creative the greater the chance of success
