What is the purpose of a risk assessment
to identify hazards, evaluate risks associated with those hazards and put in appropriate control measures to eliminate or reduce those risks. this thereby creates a safe and healthy workplace.
hazards
something which has the potential to cause harm or adversely affect the health of individuals
risk
the likelihood of a hazard occurring and causing harm or adversely affecting the health of individuals
what is the typical layout/structure of a risk assessment
risk assessments should be completed by someone who is competent and familiar with the work activities to be undertaken. Although there is no format for a risk assessment it is important that is it is undertaken systematically and results in a reduction in the risk to workers as far as reasonably practical.
