Q

How does a Respirometer work?

A

The respiring organism takes up oxygen and gives out carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide if absorbed by the soda lime, the total volume of gas within the chamber decreases, the coloured liquid moves up the tube to replace the oxygen used in respiration

Q

What are Comformers?

A

Organisms which cannot maintain a constant internal environment under varying external environment conditions, they’re internal environment is directly dependent upon its external environment

Q

What are examples of behaviours Comformers do to survive in extreme circumstances?

A

Reptiles bask in the sun, desert lizards burrow under the sad to cool down, spider crabs lose of gain water to maintain their salinity

16
Q

Do Comformers have low or high metabolic costs?

A

Low

17
Q

Do regulators have low or high metabolic costs?

A

High

18
Q

What is physiological homeostasis?

A

It’s the maintenance of the body’s internal environment within certain tolerable limits despite changes in the body’s external environment

19
Q

What are thermoregulators?

A

Animals which are able to maintain their body temperature at a relatively constant level

20
Q

Regulators maintain their internal temperature using homeostatic control, this means that there must be:

A

A receptor to detect changes, a signalling, mechanism, effectors to bring about changes to return the system to normal
