Unit 1: Biology Basics Flashcards
(13 cards)
Hypothesis
A testable prediction based on observations
Independent variable
What the experiment will deliberately change or manipulate in the investigation
Dependent variable
What changes in response to the independent variable
Control group
Group used for comparison, the “normal” group
Experimental group
The group that is being tested
Constants
Aspects of the experiment that are held constant
Homeostasis
The boys ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite external changes
Three domains of life
Bacteria, Archea and Eurkarya
Cohesion
The attraction between molecules of the same substance
Adhesion
The type of attraction that happens between different molecules
High specific heat
The temperate of water doesn’t change easily, this helps regulate the temperature in organisms
Less dense as a solid
Solid water (ice) is less dense as a liquid so it floats in water, this makes it so life can lice underwater
Water is a terrific solvent
Solution, Solute, solvent and polarity
