Unit 2 Module 7 Flashcards
(11 cards)
Histogram
A bar graph depicting a frequency distribution
Descriptive statistics
Numerical data used to measure and describe characteristics of groups
Skewed distribution
A representation of scores that lack symmetry around their average
Standard deviation
A computed measure of how much scores vary around the mean score
Normal curve
A symmetrical bell shaped curve that describes the distribution of data
Inferential statistics
Help us determine if results can be generalized to a larger population
Statistical significance
How likely it is than an obtained result occurred by chance
Measure of central tendency
Single score that represents a whole set of scores (mean, median, mode)
Measures of variation
Tells us how diverse data is. (Range and standard deviation)
Normal curve
Bell shaped
How do we know an observed difference can be generalized for another pop?
- Sample study was of a larger pop
- Observations had a low variability
- Sample consisted of more than a few cases
- Difference was statistically significant
