Q

What’s the function of the “thalamus”?

A

It’s part of the brain where all sensory information goes before getting sent to the appropriate lobes (EXCEPT SMELL)

16
Q

What are the “4 lobes of the brain”? And What are they in charge of?

A

Frontal, Temporal, Parietal, Occipital

movement, hearing, touch/feel, vision

17
Q

What are the “4 cortex of the 4 lobes of the brain”?

A
Frontal= motor cortex Parietal= somatosensory cortex
Temporal= auditory cortex Occipital= visual cortex
18
Q

What’s the “prefrontal lobe/cortex” role?

And “Association Area”?

A

(lobe) in charge of our judgment, reasoning, logic

- combine info (learning, thinking)

19
Q

Explain “Plasticity”

A

it’s constantly changing the brain.

It also compensates for brain damages

20
Q

What’s the “corpus callosum”

A

It’s the neural fiber that connects & communicates for the 2 hemispheres.

21
Q

Explain “Split Brain” and who did it?

A

It’s a surgical procedure where Rogers Sperry removed the corpus callosum so the 2 hemispheres wouldn’t be able to communicate. (treating epilepsy)

22
Q

Explain “lateralization”

A

each hemisphere specializes in different skills

23
Q

What is the “left hemisphere” in charge of?

A

hemisphere in charge of understanding and speaking

24
Q

In the brain, who is in charge of speech? And what happens if it’s functioning. (provide the location)

A

Broca’s area (left frontal lobe)

Broca’s aphasia (can’t speak)

25
Q

In the brain, who is in charge of understanding/ language comprehension? And what happens if it’s functioning. (provide the location)

A

Wernicke’s area (left temporal lobe).

Wernecke’s aphasia (can’t understand)

26
Q

What is the “right hemisphere” in charge of?

A

hemisphere in charge of creativity, facial recognition
