Unit 3 Vocab Flashcards
(33 cards)
Absorption spectrum
Electromagnetic transmission through a substance(shown through dark lines or bands)
Acetyl coA
Carbon bound to coenzyme A goes through keens cycle twice(once for each glucose)
Anabolism
Construction of complex molecules(requires energy)
Anaerobic metabolism
Creation of energy in the absence of oxygen
ATP
Energy carrying molecule
ATP synthase
Enzyme that combined ADP and a phosphate to make ATP
Autotroph
Organism that can produce its own food using light water and carbon dioxide
Calvin cycle
Step 2 of photosynthesis. Occurs in stroma
Cellular respiration
Glucose+O2=H2O+CO2
Creates energy
Hemiosmosis
Diffusion of ions
Chlorophyll
Green pigment in plants that absorbs light energy
Chloroplast
Where photosynthesis occurs(contains chlorophyll)
Citric acid(Karen’s cycle)
Harnesses the power of acetyl CoA, goes through twice and produces one ATP, 2 NADH, 1 FADH, and CO2
Electron transport chain
Creates the most ATP, electrons flow through proteins which pumps H+ through membrane, they flow through ATP synthase, ADP and phosphate combine to make ATP.
FAD/FADH
Created during Karen’s cycle
Feedback inhibition
Product that’s being made inhibits the activator
Fermentation
Anaerobic respiration, replenishes NAD+ to restart glycolysis
Glycolysis
First step of cellular respiration, produces net 2 ATP, and 2 NADH
Light dependent reactions
Occurs in thylakoids, produces ATP, and NADH, require sunlight
Light independent reactions
Occurs in stroma, CO2 to glucose, does not require light
Metabolic pathway
Sequence of enzyme reactions that lead to the final product
Mitochondrion
Site of cellular respiration
NAD/NADH
Created during glycolysis and Kreisler cycle, hold H+ for ETC
NADP/NADPH
Reduced form of NADP+, used in Calvin cycle
