Unit 5: Heredity Flashcards
(13 cards)
Mitosis
-Asexual reproduction
-genetically identical daughter cells (2)
-diploid cells
Meiosis
-Sexual reproduction
-genetically different daughter cells (4)
-haploid cells
What are gametes?
Sperm and egg cells
Crossing over
-During prophase I
-homologus chromosomes exchange genetic material with each other
Law of independent assortment
alleles separate independently from each other (randomness)
Law of segregation
each haploid recieves one allele from both parents
Dominant alleles
expressing trait and creating proteins
Recessive alleles
mutations in the gene therefore not producing proteins
complete dominance
if dominant alleles is present then dominant trait will be expressed
Hybrid cross
genotype ratio 1:2:1
phenotype ration 3:1
Dihybrid cross
phenotype ratio 9:3:3:1
incomplete dominance
blend of dominant and recessive alleles
codominace
both dominant alleles are expressed equally
