Vision Flashcards
1
Q
Visual system function
A
- sight
- processing of visual information
- control of eye movement
- info used in postural and limb control
2
Q
Retinal organization
A
- fovea: visual actuity is highest
- medal side = nasal hemiretina
- lateral side = temporal hemiretina
these are then divided into superior and inferior portions
3
Q
Binocular zone
A
- blending of images from both eyes
4
Q
Monocular zone
A
- lateral hemiflield
- nose blocks view from oppsite monocular zone
- must close one eye when testing
5
Q
Visual fields
How does information travel
A
- image comes into retina
- optic nerves merge to form optic chiasm => fibers from the nasa hemiretina cross
- info goes to optic tract and then visual cortex
6
Q
Optic tract projections
A
- some info processed in pretectal area
- some goes toward superior colliculus
- some goes to lateral geniculate in thalamus
- then through optic radiation area
7
Q
lesion to the one of the optic nerves
A
- blindness in that whole eye
8
Q
lesions
bitemporal hemianopsia
A
- info from both temporal areas
- tunnel vision
- usually caused by pituitary tumor
- loss of lateral vision in both fileds
lesion in optic chiasm
9
Q
lesion
homonymous hemianopsia
A
- lesion in the optic tract
- before and or after thalamus
- loss lateral portion of one eye and medial portion of the other
- this occurs in the optic radiation area
