Flashcards in Weather Forecasts Deck (21):
1

Destination Aerodrome Forecast's (TAF/TTF) are mandatory for IFR flights and must be valid....

30 mins before and 60 mins after planned ETA.

2

If forecasts cannot be obtained then an IFR flight may depart without provided he is satisfied the departure the weather will permit a safe return within 1 hour of departure, PROVIDED

Updated forecast information must be accessed within 1 hour of departure.

3

Area Forecasts (ARFOR) for operations below

FL 200

4

The ARFOR cloud datum and validity required for a flight?

Cloud datum is MSL
AND
Must be valid for entire flight

5

Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF)

• Valid for airspace within 5nm of center of aerodrome runway complex

6

TAF

• Used to determine alternate requirements

• Cloud datum is aerodrome elevation

7

TAF

• Must be valid for 30 minutes before and 60 minutes after planed ETA

• 30 minute buffers apply to INTER/TEMPO or FM periods

8

Trend Type Forecast (TTF)

• Valid for airspace within 5nm of center of aerodrome runway complex

9

TTF

• Valid for 3 hours from time of observation
AND
• Replaces TAF for period of validity

10

TTF

Replaces TAF for its period of validity

12

INTER

Used to indicate changes in prevailing conditions of less than 30 minutes

13

INTER

If changes below alternate minima 30 minutes holding or alternate is required

For TAF, 30 minute buffers apply either side of validity

If ETA is in buffer after the period only sufficient fuel to exit the buffer required

14

TEMPO

Used to indicate changes in prevailing conditions of less than 60 minutes

15

TEMPO

• If changes below alternate minima 60 minutes holding or alternate is required

• For TAF, 30 minute buffers apply either side of validity

16

TEMPO

If ETA is in buffer after the period only sufficient fuel to exit the buffer required

17

FM

Indicates a significant change in forecast conditions from this time (Jep 7.6)

18

FM

If change reduces conditions a buffer is applied 30 minutes before time of change

19

FM

• If change improves conditions a buffer is applied 30 minutes after time of change

20

FM

• If arrival time is during the FM or buffer periods and the change reduces below alternate minima an alternate required

21

Thunderstorms

• If thunderstorms forecast fuel for alternate required; or
• If endorsed with INTER or TEMPO sufficient holding fuel (30 or 60 minutes)
• Same buffer rules apply as per INTER & TEMPO
