Week 12 - Content Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is the division of the ANS?
The ANS branches off the CNS, and contains the ENS, and PNS & SNS
What is the role of the Autonomic Nervous System?
Controls visceral functions (heart rate, blood pressure, sexual function, digestion, temperature regulation, adipose cells, immune cells).
What is the role of the sympathetic nervous system?
Carries signals related to fight or flight response
What is the role of the parasympathetic nervous system?
Regulates bodies “rest and digest” functions
What neurotransmitters are used by the ANS?
Preganglionic neurons release: ACh
Postganglionic neurons release: ACh, NE.
What are the difference between skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle?
Skeletal & Cardiac are both striated and smooth muscle is unstriated
Cardiac and Smooth muscle are both involuntary whereas skeletal muscle is voluntary
What is the neural control for each kind of cardiac tissue?
Skeletal: Somatic Nervous System
Cardiac & Smooth: Autonomic Nervous System
Pacemaker cells
Electrical coupling adjacent cells
Timing of events in excitation-contraction coupling
Receptors involved in autonomic responses
Major responses of body to stimulation by sympathetic nervous system
Major response of body to stimulation by parasympathetic nervous system
