What were some of the arguments of liberal feminism?
They argued that if they can reason, just like men, then they are also people. As a result, they should also be included into society.
What happened during the Harlem Renaissance?
There was the “New Negro Movement”. There was a spirit of determination and reaction against segregation in WWI. Expansion of social freedoms for women, migration, and intellectual/cultural revival.
What happened during the after the 1920s?
Women had more freedom but more disciplinary regimes
What were some things that women could do after the 1920s?
Go to co-ed schools, wear makeup, wear sleveless dresses, can act independent but remember to marry, make a home according to income.
What were some things that applied to women of color after the 1920s?
Economic precarity, beauty norms, sexual freedom, because of racism. Sexual freedom also applied to lesbians because it was illegal.
What does Beauvoir theorize/argues?
She argues if there are females. Although the answer is obvious, but females are put into this category of “woman”. She argues that we are not born but grow to be women and that it is not seen as good as being a man. Woman is negative and the “other sex”.
What does Beauvoir say about women and why they accept the role of being degraded?
Because they share no collective history/groups. They would rather try to assimilate with men because they feel that they relate to them.

Baby boom and teaching women to keep husbands and how to be a good wife

She argues that there be the eradication of racism and sexism. Argues that men can’t keep up with the same standards they created.
What was the purpose of NOW?
to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, exercising all the privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with men.

What die Friedan argue before NOW?
Women were unfulfilled by their housewive role and many were given meds to cure this. She argues that this was a structural and political problem.
