Q

Option 1
The ANZAC legend is an idealised version of the truth. To what extent do you agree? Discuss with both affirmative and negative views in your response. (6 marks)

A

The ANZAC legend represents the great traits that Australians seen their forces demonstrate in battle. Endurance, courage, creativity, good humour, and mateship are commonly regarded attributes. These attributes can be used as an inspiration for all Australians, however, the ANZAC legend also excludes many of the negative attributes our soldiers had and does not involve many women. Yes, the ANZAC legend portrays a good meaning but, can only be valued to a certain extent. The ANZAC soldiers were interpreted to be cheeky and undisciplined. Australia tends to turn a blind eye to the immoral actions our soldiers were doing in WW1. Some of the misconduct, Australian soldiers demonstrated in WW1, was killing prisoner, catching venereal disease at phenomenal rates and would be known for outperforming all other Western Front forces in causing trouble.

Option 3
Prompt: Discuss one way that Australian women and one way that Indigenous soldiers had an impact in the World War 1 effort. (6 marks)

A

Australia women played a pivotal role during WW1 even though they didn’t take part in it. Prior to WW1 women would traditionally stay at home and do the housework, but the absence of men at work meant that women had to step up in society, so they filled the manufacturing and agricultural positions that men had left behind, which was important for the country to keep going and keep the economy running. Their employment opportunities expanded beyond traditional women’s professions, such as teaching and domestic work. Even though they weren’t on the battlefield the women worked as nurses and aid for the wounded soldiers. The women worked in hospitals, on hospital ships and trains, or in casualty clearing stations closer to the front line. Women were kept occupied by also making packages to help the soldiers by Making quilts, bandages and clothing for the men overseas were just a few of their wartime projects. These groups sent books, newspapers and special treats to military hospitals overseas. The inclusion of aboriginal soldiers in WW1 helped out Australia and it was a major thing as the white settlers and the aboriginals worked together to help their country. It was historic also because it was one of the first times the aboriginal people had gotten included and were also respected by the white settlers.
