Q

two alveolar classes

A

type I alveoli - gas exchange, type II alveoli- release pulmonary surfactant so as to lower surface tension or differentiate to replace damaged type I cells

Q

how does resistance to airflow vary across the respiratory tree

A

more resistance in trachea and bronchi because even though they have larger diameters, there are less of them compared to heaps of alveoli which mean there is more surface area for air flow in alveoli
