Reciprocal altruism

A

Occurs in social animals
Relies on the idea that the roles of the donor and the recipient will later reverse
Example vampire bats cannot go long without blood so others will regurgitate blood so they can survive

A

Altruistic behaviour is common between two organisms if they are related - the donor will benefit indirectly as the chance of their genes surviving increases

A

The proportion of genes that are shared with relatives - natural selection favours altruistic individuals helping parents or siblings since shared genes will reach th next generation
