Q

limitations

A

favoured rich and middle classes - two thirds of grammar school places were taken by middle class pupils

the mainly working class pupils in secondary moderns were labeled as failures and so lacked the motivation to succeed (interactionism)

girls generally achieved better marks than boys in the 11+ yet the pass mark was set higher because there were less grammar school places for girls due to the government’s view that girls matured faster than boys
